What's in a Name?

I have long wanted to address this issue. The left has for years proclaimed themselves to be "liberal". Recently many of the left have adopted the moniker "Progressive". Let us define what those words mean.
From Webster's Dictionary, Liberal:
1
a : of, relating to, or based on the liberal arts <liberal education> b archaic : of or befitting a man of free birth
2
a : marked by generosity : openhanded <a liberal giver> b : given or provided in a generous and openhanded way <a liberal meal> c : ample, full
3
obsolete : lacking moral restraint : licentious
4
: not literal or strict : loose <a liberal translation>
5
: broad-minded; especially : not bound by authoritarianism, orthodoxy, or traditional forms
6
a : of, favoring, or based upon the principles of liberalism b capitalized : of or constituting a political party advocating or associated with the principles of political liberalism; especially : of or constituting a political party in the United Kingdom associated with ideals of individual especially economic freedom, greater individual participation in government, and constitutional, political, and administrative reforms designed to secure these objectives
The first line talks of education, most people who call themselves "liberal" do think of themselves as educated, and they are born free (at least for now).
The second definition speaks of generosity, well they are generous with the public's money (not so much with their own).
The third definition is interesting, "lacking moral restraint", this one clearly fits the left (no group is more immoral than the ACLU, the charter of the left).
The 4th definition is what I have always used to define "liberal", as in: "use a liberal amount of paint on the fence."
The 5th definition is where most of the left sees themselves, they put on an air of sophistication and elitism. As though they were placed here on Earth to help the stupid and uninformed, to "take care" of those who simply cannot provide for themselves. "We can run the schools better, than private enterprise, we need a nanny state government.", this is the thinking of the Marxist. This is how we inherited the entitlement society. The left make the downtrodden believe that they cannot succeed and need the left to "help them". I call it pretentiousness, I call it immoral, inhumane and backwards.
The last definition is where the left gets into trouble. A liberal is supposed to believe in more freedom, not less, more choices, not fewer.

You cannot call yourself a "liberal" if you do not believe in:  school choice, property rights,  the Second Amendment and Capitalism (maximum freedom & choice). Yet the modern left is against all of those things.
What about the term "Progressive"? Webster's definition does not include anything relating to politics (except for the colloquial use of the word). Progress means to move forward, I know the  left believes they are moving forward, but Communism and Socialism were left on the "ash heap of history" by Reagan. We won the cold war. The commies lost, remember. "glasnost" and "Winds of Change"? Now it seems the left doesn't know who won....

These people who support socialism, collectivism, communism, marxism et al. are not "liberals" they are leftists, we should call them on the misuse of the term every chance we get. Do not let them hide behind a false moniker.

As Robert Heinlein said: "Political tags - such as royalist, communist, democrat, populist, fascist, liberal, conservative, and so forth - are never basic criteria. The human race divides politically into those who want people to be controlled and those who have no such desire."

Climate Change?

The church of Environmentalism have changed the name of their beloved cause. Did you catch it? When the left discovered that the masses were not buying the concept of "Global Warming", they decided  to change the rallying cry to "Climate Change".  They have also adopted a tactic from the ADL in calling the non-believers "Climate Change Deniers". As though to not believe in climate change would be inhumane. If this does not fit the definition of a cult, I don't know what does.
The Earth's climate has always changed, always will. Forces much stronger than mankind have shaped this world and will continue to do so regardless of man's actions. Things like plate tectonics, which cause volcanoes to emerge and erupt, spewing millions of cubic tons of "harmful, green house gasses" into the atmosphere. Things like solar radiation & solar flares which have waxed and waned throughout the history of the Earth. This solar activity has the power to destroy our electrical infrastructure, heat the planet beyond comfort and kill us all from extreme radiation. Our planet's imperfect orbit and axis spin also affect the climate. It is by pure luck or divine intervention that we even survived this long.
Did you know that the Earth was once much warmer than it is now?
During the age of the dinosaurs the Earth was perhaps 20 degrees warmer than today. Most dinosaurs were cold blooded and could not produce their own body heat. The would not survive the winters in much of the world. The climate the dinosaurs lived in was tropical, plant life was abundant, it was very similar to a green house.

I'm sure you have heard of the Ice Ages that the earth has experienced (the Earth has experienced at least 5 Ice Ages).
While we may not know the exact causes of the ice ages, we do know that they happened.
How does the Church of Environmentalism explain those facts? Surely my F-350 didn't cause the extinction of the Dinosaur, did it? Another fact the environazis will not tell you: The Earth is still in an Ice Age.

That's right, by definition an Ice Age has not ended until the polar caps are free of permanent ice. Just 15,000 years ago Canada, Sweden and the north Atlantic were covered with ice, Ice still exists year round on Antarctica, Greenland and most of the North Pole.

So.... we are still recovering from the last ice age, which means the Earth was on a course of warming before the industrialization of man. The Earth is still warming and the ice caps are going to melt whether we exhale Co2 or not....

Besides, let us consider what a warmer, greenhouse like Earth would mean: Plant life would be abundant, we could grow anything anywhere and faster than today. Growing seasons would be longer and famine would be a thing of the past. People would not die from cold weather related issues (more people die from cold exposure than heat exposure). We would need less clothing, meaning less production of materials to keep us warm. Our houses would not need the layers of insulation and gas, coal, oil or electricity to heat it. What is wrong with that?

An Iranian Fire Drill in Manhatten?

We have yet again another incident in which the Police (you know the ones who take an oath to "serve and protect" the public) use the "spray and pray" technique of pistol shooting.
In New York's midtown Manhattan neighborhood (in the vicinity of the Empire State Bldg), a man approached his former employer with a gun and a desire to get revenge for his recent freedom from employment.

Said cops (two of them) show up and fire 16 shots between the two of them and place seven on target. Where do you suppose the other 9 shots landed? Well, this is New York, one of the most crowded concrete neighborhoods in the world. The cops successfully hit 9 bystanders. That is right!, they had a 100% success rate! Now you might say that it was not successful because they did not INTEND to hit the other nine people....they just were not as proficient with their deadly tools as they should be. Could you imagine hiring a carpenter who could only hit 7 of the 16 nails he was aiming for? No other professional would be allowed an excuse like this. I will finish with the immortal words of the late Col. Jeff Cooper:

"Family member Dr. Werner Weissenhofer reports from Vienna. It seems that a felon armed with a 357 revolver robbed a bank. As he left the bank, he was accosted by a policeman whom he murdered with one shot. Great excitement ensued, with the felon taking hostages and racing madly around from one store to another. When the forces of law and order had been mobilized and surrounded the goblin, a policeman volunteered to trade himself to the goblin for two hostages. This offer was accepted, at which time the felon fired at the policeman and seriously wounded him. The forces of law and order opened up with everything they had, which was mostly AUG and Glock fire. Shortly, the goblin killed himself with one round. He had fired three times and achieved three hits. The police, according to their official report, fired 1,261 rounds without drawing blood.
At one time, we used to refer to an event of this sort as a "Chinese Fire Drill." Later we came to call if "Father's Day in Harlem." After the interment of the Ayatollah Khomeini, we began to call it "An Iranian Funeral." Now, I guess we can call it "A Viennese Bank Robbery."
As I have often stated, if someone wants to shoot at me, I sure hope he does it on full-auto"

Living in the White.....

Well it has happened again, another nut job went and attacked innocent citizens living in the white....
In case you do not know what I am talking about, some theater patrons in Aurora, Colorado thought they were going to watch the latest Batman movie were attacked by a madman wielding several guns and some sort of smoke grenades. (Notice I did not call him a "Gunman". Just because you have a gun you are not a "gunman" anymore than owning a guitar makes you a musician.)

These people were all in condition white, completely unaware that a goblin (or "joker" in this case), at any moment, could ruin their day.
It is not their fault really, we are told by the media and those in positions of authority that the police will be there to "Serve and Protect", but where were the Police on that night?
The fact is the Police cannot always be there, even when they are there they have no legal responsibility to protect anyone (see the SCOTUS ruling on this).
We should always strive to be in condition yellow, ready to do battle at any moment, for our security is our own responsibility. This is not to say that we need be armed at all times, or that we have to have our head on a swivel. It means, picking the right times to see a movie (1 am is prime goblin time), sitting in the most defense-able position in the theater and acting IMMEDIATELY at the 1st sign of danger.

Now the calls for Gun Control can be heard again, and again we will have to battle with nit wit hoplophobes who hold a misguided belief that outlawing guns will somehow make us safe from bad guys (keep in mind these are the same bleeding hearts who fight for shorter prison sentences for repeat offenders).
We could argue the points until we are blue in the face, but let me save us all some time. Anyone who holds this belief is wrong, DEAD WRONG. We cannot make our streets safe and remain a free and open society. With freedom comes a certain level of danger, also freedom makes responsibility a necessity, responsibility for your safety.

Do Not Feed the Animals

From the web....
The Food Stamp program, administered by the Dept. of Agriculture is proud to be distributing the greatest amount of free meals and food stamps ever (part of the never ending "war on Poverty").

Meanwhile the National Park Service, administered by the Dept of the Interior has asked us: "Do not feed the animals", they have even gone so far as to put up signs.
Their official reason for the policy is because they fear the animals will become dependent on the handouts and will not learn to take care of themselves.
This ends today's lesson

of SCOTUS and Slavery

So the "Supreme" Court has decided that the U.S. Constitution does not prohibit the Federal Government from forcing you to purchase a service from a private company. Keep in mind this is the same organization that allowed African Slaves to be considered less than human for nearly 100 years.  We had a road full of potholes and instead of fixing the potholes, Obama made us all get AAA. I have all the confidence that a Republican Congress will overturn this turd of a law. It is just a matter of time. Good Ol' Abe Lincoln said once:"The best way to get a bad law repealed is to enforce it strictly". I have the feeling when people start getting stung with these new taxes, they will have a different opinion of "free health care". Lesson #1: THERE IS NO FREE LUNCH!, when someone offers you something for free, think of the Trojans....(not the condoms, the army of men that hid inside the large wooden horse).

In other news the US House of Representatives saw to it that AG Holder be held in contempt for being less than forthcoming with documents related to operation Fast & Furious, it seems there is enough outrage to warrant AG Holder stepping down. Remember folks we almost impeached a President for conspiracy of breaking and entering, where not one person was killed (or hurt for that matter). We have a body count of 300 and counting resulting from the failed BATF operation, included a Border Patrol Agent......ah how the shoe fits when on the other foot....The leftists MSM would love to sweep this under the rug, hopefully enough people will be asking questions and the media will not be able to ignore it.

My Politics

Rather than have my readers wonder what my thoughts are or paint me as a right wing nut job, I thought I would give you a run down on where I stand on the issues (I realize this is a bit narcissistic, but isn't that what blogging is all about? :)

Big Government: I guess you could call me an anti-Federalist, big government is dangerous to our union and must be reeled in.

Taxes: Let's bring an end to the "temporary" Income Tax, it is nobody's business how much money you make, nor should we disincentive people from making more money. Also We should revise the property tax code so that once you reached a certain term (30 years) you no longer owe property taxes...

Abortion: Nobody likes abortions, and outlawing them will not stop them. We should get both sides to agree to end unwanted pregnancies and abortion will become a "non-issue"

Gun Control: Gun control is less about guns and more about control. The hoplophobes who beat that drum are insane, irrational and a waste of oxygen. Guns don't kill people, they are incapable of action.

Environmentalism: Environmentalism is the new church for the left. This cult requires absolute compliance and agreement. These people did not pay attention in science class and now science has become political...not good.

Health Care: You and me and everyone else alive do not have a "right" to health care. If we really want to fix the problems with health care we need tort reform. More on this later...

Education: Like everything, if you want excellence, you need competition. We should institute school choice. A voucher system that would make the public schools compete for your money.

Immigration: Certainly we cannot end all immigration, but if we don't put an end to the constant tide of illegals coming across the border, we may as well name our selves Latin America. More on this later...

Gay Marriage: The biggest threat to the sanctity of marriage is not the homosexuals, it is divorce. Let them get married, we all deserve the opportunity to be miserable (just kidding honey). Seriously, why not let them get married? Churches will still be able to decide who gets married within their walls. Besides if the Catholic Church can approve of child molestation, why not the gays?

Drugs: While I wouldn't advocate Heroin be legalized, certainly marijuana should be made legal. The potential tax benefits alone make it an excellent argument. Besides when was the last time you heard of a person high on mary-jane shooting up a shopping mall?

Crime and Punishment:  I am tired of hearing about a sex offender or axe-murderer getting out of jail because "we don't have the room". We need to keep dangerous people locked up period.

Religion: I have never had much use for religion, not that I wont protect your right to practice it, I'm just more of a man of science than faith.

Pornography: Pornography has existed as long as man has had an imagination, I'm sure the second thing early man drew (after the Wooly Mammoth) was a naked cave woman. While there is some sick stuff out there, I am far more worried about our kids seeing violence towards humans than full frontal nudity.
